We here at 50 DAYS, love to trial and understand our products before bringing them to you. So we asked 50 Days Ambassadors Sandy and Emma to give us their verdict.
"After spending 160 days carrying the VC Crown 1 on the Pacific Crest Trail, we had plenty of time to discuss improvements we would make to a new model. The new Crown 2 cased out with every change we would make. The best feature being the hip pockets. The value as a thru-hiker can not be understated. We now carry all snacks, camera, phone and anything needed at hand right there in quick access. One thing about using lightweight gear is that you need less frequent breaks, and with the addition of these pockets you really can make miles. It is a perfect addition for anyone looking to tackle a thru-hike. Further great features are the pockets on the front and sides. They offer a great way to stash gear and have it close on hand. The harness has great coverage on the hips for comfort. This along with the new backplate gives exceptional comfort for a pack that is so lightweight. Having the option of the pack coming with the lid is a bonus too. It gives you the versatility to carry a few extra litres of gear, or shed it and go even lighter. The Crown 2 has a simpler closure system with two simple buckles to close the top of the pack making access much easier.
From March 2017, we trialled the new Crown 2 in Tasmania on the Du Cane Ridge Traverse, Port Davey/South Coast Track and in Freycinet National Park. Also, on a winter circuit in the Victorian Alps and recently on the Larapinta Trail. In all environments we could not fault it. It is hard to think of a situation where we would ever go back to our 3kg canvas packs!"
